Sound Synthesis Through Motion

TECH DEMO

Motion Tracking

Amplitude and frequency modulation

MAX8

PROJECT OVERVIEW

A MAX 8 user interface that is intuitive, with clear motion based interactions, allowing me to revisit and repurpose it as a resource for future movement-based interactive installations. A person's movement is a common trigger for interactive experiences, which is why I chose to focus on this mode of interaction. The audio produced is the result of amplitude and frequency modulation based on the speed in which a person is moving within the sections of their web camera.

AMPLITUDE MODULATION alters the carrier audio signal through a multiplication process. The amplitude modulator signal causes the carrier signal to change shape. This results in a change in amplitude (loudness) of the carrier signal.

FREQUENCY MODULATION operates in a similar fashion. The frequency of the carrier signal is altered through the modulator signal, resulting in a change in frequency (pitch).
